WORLD FEDERATION OF UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATIONS
FEDERATION MONDIALE DES ASSOCIATIONS POUR LES NATIONS UNIES
A peoples’ movement for the United Nations
At the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit in August, McKinsey & Co. produced a report suggesting that over 90 per cent of CEOs were doing more to incorporate environmental, social and governance issues into their businesses than 5 years ago. Goldman Sachs released a report showing how responsible business practices were contributing to the bottom line. Coca Cola's Neville Isdell called on business to "speak up, step up and scale up" on efforts to redress global problems.
Daily there is growing evidence of mutually beneficial partnerships being formed between the United Nations, corporations and civil society. Leading the way are CEOs who have grasped that the future is going to be increasingly shaped by the activities of people networking across cultures, borders and sectors.
Through our network of over 100 national United Nations Associations, thousands of people of all ages are connecting with each other to learn about and take action on critical issues, notably climate change, nuclear non-proliferation, development and the protection of human rights. They come together to discuss options at the national, regional and global levels, and then press their governments to be forthcoming in UN debates on how the UN and the international community should address these global challenges.
I welcome collaboration with your corporation in these efforts and cordially invite you to join the Friends of the World Federation of United Nations Associations.
Your membership of the Friends, for $10,000 a year, will give you personal invitations to the annual luncheon with the UN Secretary-General and to the World Federation’s Plenary Assemblies, the next one will be held in the Republic of Korea in 2009. Prominent recognition will be given to your corporation on our website and promotional materials.
The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, recently said that:
“The World Federation of United Nations Associations and its more than 100 member groups are irreplaceable champions of our Organization. They inform, educate and enlighten their national constituencies about the promise and performance of the United Nations. They bring home to them that the UN’s agenda is everyone’s agenda, and that the issues of concern to the UN, concern us all as human beings”.
I would greatly appreciate your leadership in helping to support and strengthen the World Federation. If you have suggestions for furthering this work, I would be glad to hear from you. If you need further information, please feel free to be in touch with our Secretary-General, Pera Wells at firstname.lastname@example.org.
With appreciation and good wishes,
